Acorn Electron

The Acorn Electron was a budget version of the BBC Micro computer, first released in 1983. With considerably less RAM and processing power than it's competitors, the 8 bit microcomputer unfortunately struggled against the likes of the ZX Spectrum and the Commodore 64.

Although the machine was effectively shelved in 1985, cassette based games continued to be developed until the early 1990s. Emulators are available for the Acorn Electron; the most popular being ElectrEm. A highlight of games include...

  • Starship Command (Acornsoft, 1983)
  • Chuckie Egg (A&F, 1984)
  • Elite (Acornsoft, 1984)
  • The Repton series (Superior Software, 1985-1989)
  • Thrust (Superior Software, 1986)
  • Citadel (BBC Micro, 1985)
  • Frogger (A&F, 1983)
  • The Last Ninja (System 3, 1988)
  • Hunchback (Superior Software, 1984)
  • Jet Set Willy (Software Projects, 1984)
  • The Rick Hanson Trilogy (Robico Software, 1985-1986)
  • Paperboy (BBC Micro, 1986)
